On Engineering and Platform

8x8 offers no shortage of interesting and challenging problems. Being a part of the team solving real world problems at scale is a real personal driver for me.

I believe good architecture strives to hide complexity. Complex problems don't necessarily need complex solutions. Add complexity to the design only when warranted, always ask the question "is this needed?" A well architected solution results in extensible software and delivers products that are malleable enough to evolve with ever changing needs.

Answered by Bryan Martin (CTO): The "8x8" name refers to the number of video pixels, or dots of light, that are used as the basic building block in many image compression and video transformation algorithms. From its earliest days, 8x8 pioneered many video communications technologies, and video remains a key element of the 8x8 eXperience Communications Platform today. 8x8's XCaaS platform provides integrated contact center, voice, video, chat and embeddable communications in the cloud to businesses all around the globe.
